Political Ranting

Warning: If you don't want to possibly be offended by my political ranting, don't read any more of this post!

So, I'm in the check-out line at Wal-Mart today behind a woman with a young child. One of the oddities of my personality is that I often watch what other people buy at Wal-Mart (kinda' like spying -- seeing who's buying pregnancy tests, hemorrhoid cream, junk food, thong underwear, all organic foods -- you get the idea.) Anyway, I watched what all she had on the conveyor belt (all name-brand, fairly expensive foods), noticed her very cutely dressed kid with sneakers that cost more than mine -- and I don't skimp on my workout shoes -- and then watched her pay with food stamps. I have no problem with food stamps to temporarily help hard-working, well-meaning people in tough times. However, I become instantly irritated, no enraged really, when all of the foods I am buying are store-brand, I'm using coupons, and my kids aren't wearing outfits that would each buy a month's worth of groceries -- and I'm paying for them after the taxes that just bought her groceries have already been taken out of our paychecks.
So, already irritated about the situation, I am then loading my hard-earned, store-brand groceries into the car when I see her drive by in a, no kidding, Lexus SUV with personalized license plates! Are. you. kidding. me?

welcome to your "not-so-new" America! I see it all the time too. Its hard. I was actually one of those people who fell into a rough time (19, pregnant, homeless, you get the drift)and truly needed help. I only used the help for four months, which is all I needed it for and worked TWO jobs while on it. Anyhow, the point of desperately embarrassing myself by saying all that is that its people like her that got me relentlessly persecuted by family, friends and strangers alike. I hate when people free load! I agree with ya girl, all the way!

Yes, I agree! Welcome to the new America, as your friend stated!

My step-brother and his wife have one child. They both work and make more money than we do. She buys my niece $80 jeans but they are about to declare bankruptcy!#@$#%

As my mom so eloquently put it, "Sherry can outfit one whole child w/ a complete wardrobe for $80! (Pretty close!)

Cori and I know a family who spent $15,000 adopting a child (who, admittedly, probably desperately need their love), but now the wife/mom, who has a degree and is entirely capable of working, "doesn't really want a job." So they use food stamps and welfare and (to top it off) go from church to church and beg food! Talk about pi$$ing me off!!!

Makes my blood boil! Kinda like me paying out of pocket to have a baby because my private insurance doesn't offer maternity. But, I watch half of the women in Ft. Smith come in and deliver for FREE and say their "insurance" is Medicaid and demand "extra" everything because "my insurance will cover it"!!!

Hi there, Stopping by for a visit. Wish we could have gotten to know each other better. Your kids are darling, such pretty eyes, all of them. This post is so typical.. Or how about when you see babies or older kids with no shoes on and dirty as can be and their parents are buying beer. That one makes me so mad. Or the parents with their hair done, nice clothes and they have kids that look like they haven't had a brush through their hair in a month. I see that one a lot here.
